Our Team

John Niyondiko is the founding pastor and church planter of Unbound Church in Edmond, Oklahoma, a congregation dedicated to reaching the African diaspora and building a multicultural community for worship and discipleship. Originally from Burundi, John experienced life as a refugee in Rwanda and Uganda before coming to the United States, a journey that shaped his passion for bringing displaced and international communities into God’s family. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biblical and Intercultural Studies from All Nations Christian College in the UK, as well as a Master of Theological Studies and an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University. John leads Unbound Church with his wife, Daphrose, and their three children, serving with a vision to make disciples, equip leaders, and impact both local and global communities

Josh and Michelle, and their 3 boys, lived in Burundi for almost a year and began a strong partnership with the people there. They returned to the States in March of 2025. They moved to Oklahoma in June 2025, where they serve at Unbound Church, a church that is primarily African refugees and students. Michelle teaches English to refugees, and Josh serves alongside the Burundian pastor. They are still heavily involved in ministry in Burundi through World Renewal Burundi.

Our Story

In 2018, a small group of Kirundi/Kinyarwanda-speaking families started gathering in an apartment for prayer, worship, and Bible study.  In 2019, as more people joined, they moved to Vintage Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. The purpose was clear from the start: to establish a spiritual home where the African diaspora and international communities could worship, grow, and feel a sense of belonging.

A turning point arrived when a professor encouraged the founder with the words of Zechariah 4:10 “Do not despise small beginnings.” With these words, they felt God confirming that it was time to step out in faith and officially launch the church. In November 2020, with the support of Oklahoma Baptists, Putnam City Baptist Church, and other local partners, Unbound Church was launched.

Today, Unbound Church continues to fulfill its mission to gather the scattered into God’s family and become a cross-cultural community of transformed followers of Jesus Christ, renewed by the Good News. Its ministry goes beyond Sunday worship: the church actively reaches out to international students, supports immigrant and refugee families, and engages in both local and global missions. With a focus on discipleship, evangelism, and community transformation, Unbound Church strives to be a place where those uprooted by circumstance find belonging, purpose, and hope in Christ.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a Christ-centered community where people of all ages are discipled, cared for, and equipped to serve—meeting both spiritual and practical needs—so that together we bring God’s love and transformation locally and beyond.

Our belief statement

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His coming personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
